Big Bear's Ultra - BBU

This month on the Big Bear's Ultra website we started registrations for the first edition of a new trail runnimg race Big Bear's Ultra,that will take part on September 23, 2023 in and around Žilina.

The longest 118km course BBU100+ starts and finishes at Budatín castle. It will take the runners to Dubeň and Straník, then via Sedlo Žiarce, Lysica a Belá up to the Malej Fatra ridge (Veľký Kriváň, Malý Kriváň, Suchý) and to Strečno. From Strečno the runners will continue via Špicák up to Minčol and just befpre Krížava they will turn to Turie. Before reaching Turie they will still have to climb up to Čipčie though. The Rajčianka river crossing follows in Porúbla and then only the final 40km section is left. First up to Skalky, then Tlstá hora, Budzogáň, Žibrid and on the Strážovské vrchy ridgeline all the way to Hričov castle. Then through Ovčiarsko, Hradisko the runners will return back to Žilina. The final kilometers pass through the historical city centre back to the finish at Budatín castle. 

Approximately the half distance route BBU60+ starts in Strečn and from there copies the identical route as BBU100+ .

Ultra races BBU100+ / BBU60+ have ITRA certifications (ITRA5 / ITRA3) and UTMB indexes (UTMB 100M / 50K). Both races are part of Slovak Ultra Trail League as well as ITRA National League.
